Rukungiri District is located in South Western Uganda bordering the Districts of Ntungamo in the East, Kabale in the South, Mitooma in the North and Kanungu to the West. It lies at an approximate altitudinal range of about 615 m to 1864 m above sea level; Latitude 000 47’ 21”S and Longitude 290 56’ 30” E. The administrative Headquarters of the district is situated in Rukungiri Town Council about 380 km from Kampala, the Capital City of Uganda

Rukungiri district is made up of two counties and one municipality. Rukungiri district Local Government covers an area of 1,524.28 sq km2. According to Census 2014, Rukungiri has a population of 314,694 of which females are164, 678 (52.3%) and males 150,016 (47.7%) with an urban population of 43,606 (13.9%). There is an increasing rate of population growth from 1.3% (275,162) to 1.5% (314,694). It is now projected to be 360,127 at a rate of 1.7 per annum

ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE

Local government and administrative units are collectively known as local councils.
Rukungiri District Local government is organized hierarchically and is divided into five levels. Thus, Local Councils (LC) are along the following levels: village council (LC I), parish council (LC II), sub-county (LC III), Municipality/county council (LC IV) and district council (LC V). The LC III and Municipality (LC IV) are Lower Local Governments whereas Parish (LC II) and Village (LC I) are administrative Units. Grievance Redress Mechanism

A Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) is a set of specified procedures through which dispute resolution is sought and provided. It involves the receipt and processing of complaints from individuals or groups negatively affected by the processes and activities of a particular programme /project (Service delivery)

The GRM addresses complaints and grievances and seeks conflict resolution arising from and during programme/project implementation, ensures transparency and accountability amongst stakeholders including beneficiaries and promotes relations between project implementers and beneficiaries.

A GRM Committee was formed which is chaired by the CAO and the secretary is the DCDO - District Community Development Officer. All redresses should be reported to the secretary on this email | Contact For onward consideration by the GRM Committee.
