Located 400Km south west of the Ugandan Capital city Kampala, Rukungiri district’s variety of fauna and flora endowment is probably unequalled in the whole country mainly in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kigezi wild life reserve and Imaramagambo forest.

A drive through the low lying Kigezi Wildlife Reserve and Queen Elizabeth National Park is rewarding with a great view of grazing herds of buffaloes and all kinds of gazebos on your way to Rweshama fishing village on the banks of Lake Edward.

The district is also an ideal tourist destination because it is endowed with a serene climate and environment that would endear it to any visitor. Temperatures range from 150C to 200C throughout the year.

Rukungiri town is also an ultimate stopover en-route to the legendary Bwindi National Park for the tracking of the mountain gorillas.

In spite of the splendor and opulence in the natural resources sector, there are still some blemishes. Pressure on the land due to rapid population increase and poor methods of soil management have negatively affected the environment especially in the cultivated areas. Human activity like habitat destruction poaching and encroachment are affecting the tourism sector.
